The NOTAM page (“NOTAM” menu, /notams/) lists the active NOTAMs of your club's airfield, sorted by category, with filters and a map of areas. It requires permission to view NOTAMs and the NOTAM module enabled for your club.
Where NOTAMs come from and how often they are updated
The NOTAMs of your airfield are stored by Prepavol about every 15 minutes, from SkyHosting's aeronautical data service. The source is presented in the interface as the DGAC's SOFIA service. A NOTAM that disappears from the source becomes inactive, then is deleted.
The banner at the top of the page recalls the last update and gives the breakdown of active NOTAMs: airfield (AD), flight information region (FIR), VFR and IFR traffic.
Reading a NOTAM
NOTAMs are grouped by category, with a counter per section: facilities and services, manoeuvring area, apron, lighting, landing aids and radio navigation, procedures, airspace and traffic, meteorology, airspace restrictions, warnings, obstacles and other information. FIR NOTAMs have their own categories.
Each card shows the NOTAM name, its validity dates in UTC (or “permanent”), the A), Q), D), E), F) and G) fields when they exist, and the links in the text. A NOTAM replaced by another active NOTAM is hidden, and the replacing NOTAM carries the “Replaces” badge followed by the reference.
There are no “active” and “upcoming” tabs: all active NOTAMs are listed together. A NOTAM whose start date is in the future carries the “Upcoming” badge with the time left before it starts, and the “Active on” filter lets you see what will be active on a given date.
Badges
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| New | NOTAM created less than 72 hours ago |
| Upcoming | start date in the future |
| PERM | no end date |
| Expires soon | ends in less than 48 hours |
| H24 | the D) field contains H24 |
| In force / Outside hours | evaluation of the D) field at the current instant, in UTC, with the airfield's sunrise and sunset |
| ATS open / not provided / closed | ATS hours read from the NOTAM text |
A purple “IFR” badge flags an instrument-traffic NOTAM. The time remaining before the end is shown in years, months, days, hours and minutes. For an AIP supplement, a button opens the SIA PDF when it is available.
Filters
- Category pills with a counter.
- “All”, “AD” and “FIR” (the FIR choice only appears if there are FIR NOTAMs).
- “All”, “VFR” and “IFR”.
- A “Search NOTAMs…” field, the “Active on” date and tags (new, upcoming, perm, expires soon, H24, in force).
- The “Reset” button and the “shown out of total” counter.
Filters are shared through the page address and remembered per airfield, except for the search and the date.
Areas on the map
When a NOTAM's text describes an area (a circle with its radius, a polygon of three points or more, a point, or a named area such as LF-P, LF-R or LF-D), Prepavol detects and draws it. The “View on map” button opens the detail: radius, vertical limits and AIP supplement if known. The mere centre of the Q) line is not enough to create an area.
The /notams/map/ page shows an airfield's NOTAMs within 40 NM around it, with filters by type, “on map” or “no area”, AD or FIR, and a sort by date or by type. It also offers the “Airspaces” and “Wildfires” layers.
The area types (prohibited, restricted, danger, information, fireworks) are deduced automatically from keywords in the text, the Q) code and the category. This is a reading aid: it is not an official classification.
Looking up another aerodrome
The “View NOTAMs for another aerodrome” field opens a window with the requested airfield's NOTAMs. A limit of 40 requests per 10-minute period applies to each member. The “SOFIA validity range” line in this window shows the period queried (from now to 96 hours later), not the validity of each NOTAM.
Frequencies changed by NOTAM
The NOTAM page does not show a frequency table. Frequencies changed by a NOTAM appear on the airfield sheet and on the Weather page, with a “NOTAM” badge followed by the reference and the old value (“formerly … MHz”).
Subscribing by calendar and being notified
The “Calendar subscription (ICS)” block lets you generate a subscription link to add to your calendar, or download an .ics file. The “Regenerate” button invalidates the old link. Prepavol can also send you a notification when a new NOTAM appears for your airfield or your region.
Frequently asked questions
Are Prepavol's NOTAMs real time?
No. They are refreshed about every 15 minutes. For a flight, check the official publications and the regulatory briefing.
Why does a NOTAM not appear in the list?
It may have been replaced by another active NOTAM (it is then hidden), not yet be active (use “Active on”), or have been removed from the source. Also reset the filters.
The area of a NOTAM is not drawn on the map, why?
Prepavol only draws an area if the NOTAM text describes it (circle, polygon, point or named area). Not every NOTAM therefore has an area on the map.
How do I see the NOTAMs of an airfield that is not mine?
Use the “View NOTAMs for another aerodrome” field. It is limited to 40 requests per 10 minutes per member.
